Think you’ve got the fastest pony in the West? Have we got the race meet for you! The Elko County Fair features six full days of Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse racing, including two of the West’s most prestigious small-track stakes races, the 69th annual Intermountain Quarter Horse Futurity, and the 37th annual Elko County Quarter Horse Derby. In all, the Fair offers more than $200,000 in purse money for race competitors, with each purse at a minimum of $3000/race.
The Intermountain Quarter Horse Futurity offers an estimated purse of $33,000, with the Derby’s purse estimated at $14,000. For information on entering the Intermountain Quarter Horse Futurity or the Elko County Quarter Horse Derby, please 2018 RACE NOMINATION FORM .
Some new races that will run this year is the Ely/Elko Thoroughbred Allowance. A Thoroughbred race for 3 year olds and up going 5 1/2 furlongs. Trials will be run in Ely for a $6,000 purse and the finals will be run in Elko for a $10,000 purse.
